I’ve lived in the area for the better part of 10 years or so and I’ve been lucky enough to be in an area that offers so much to do on any given day. Settlers’ Grant is very central to a multitude of different things to keep you and your family occupied in the community and surrounding area. One of my absolute favorite nearby destinations to go to is Burritts Rapids.
Walking trails are pretty prevalent here in town, but there are still some hidden gems that no one really knows about that I can’t believe aren’t used more. One of my favorites is located in Burritts Rapids which is about a 15 minutes drive south from here. The trail
starts at the locks and continues into the little town of Burritts Rapids and then continues to a peninsula. The trail follows the Rideau River and is extremely scenic and a great way to spend time outside. In the summer you can wave to passing boaters as you take a little hike or you can talk to tourists and locals that you meet along the way. Its a very friendly atmosphere which makes it a fun place to go to and visit.
If you want to go for a meal or a drink you can make your way to Lock 17 which is a bar and grill located directly across from the locks. They offer a great menu, patio seats and a friendly atmosphere. I like going here in the summer because its always full of people who want to chat about where they are from, boat facts, local facts and general conversation.
The best thing about this little town is the view, you can’t look in any direction without something catching your eye between the river, the trees, the animals, the people, the buildings and so on.
This week there was a lot of different things on the go which made for a busy one!
The new office needed some new light and bathroom fixtures so I got to go shopping in the city for the day yesterday. Started off by walking through the maze that is Ikea to try and find some deals and finished getting the rest at Rona. I also got to have a sneak peek at the new appliances and accessories that our interior designer has picked out for the office and I’m so impressed with her selections. We knew we wanted to have stainless steel which would match the other metal elements throughout the house, so that was all we really knew for sure. The accessories that were picked out all center around a modern feel with blue/beige neutral tones.
Its going to be really interesting to see how all of our furniture, appliances, accessories, paint selections and counter top all work together in an open concept environment! I’m very happy that interior decoration has made its way into my job description!
We will be hosting a wine & cheese open house at the new office sometime in early April! Stay posted for more details as we finalize a date and time!
As of right now, our office is located in Phase 5 of Settlers’ Grant which has also operated as a model home for interested clients. Since this house was built a long time ago there are a lot of built in upgrades that were popular ten years ago but have since become a fad of the past.
I’ve gotten to watch the new office be constructed from the ground up and I can’t even express how I excited I am to move on over! I’m also particularly invested because I got to help pick out furniture, appliances and accessories with the aid of a local interior decorator. Everything is top of the line, modern and eye catching which will make for a more interesting work space.
The layout for this new office will also be much more client friendly for walkthroughs since its only one level instead of multi-leveled like our current one. When you first walk into the new office my desk will be immediately to your left and I’ll be the one showing potential clients the house. One of the key things to remember about Settlers’ Grant is that every single house is unique; no two houses look similar on the outside. So by showing the house, clients can get a feel for the layout which can be used for their home the only thing is that the outside absolutely has to be different. Clients like this idea because it gives their house a personal touch and differentiates them from their neighbours.
The new address of the new office will be at 25 Heritage Blvd in Settlers’ Grant’s Phase 6 just off of River Rd. We will be officially over there as of March 1st and we can’t wait to start booking appointments! Its always exciting to see what kind of custom house ideas potential clients bring forward to us.
I’m a new member of the Settlers’ Grant team here in Kemptville, ON and I have been assigned to create this blog. I think it’s important to acknowledge the online community just as much as our personal interactions at work with our clients. Our market is forever shifting as new generations start looking into building custom homes and I am here to make sure that we keep up with changing technologies and communication forums.

I have always wanted to have a job that involved me in the community and merged my social media interests into something productive. I will be updating this blog just about everyday from here on out and look forward to keeping you informed! I have created this blog as a way to not only document our building processes with the new homes that we will be building; but also, to explain our views and company values, update viewers on our events and to create a more personal connection to potential clients and viewers.
